I like it!
Almost every problem I had with 5.10 has been resolved in 6.06. The only thing that wasn’t was the LED for my ipw2200 b/g wifi card does not light up when it is on, but Dapper has a great wifi notification tool on the tool bar so I know when I’m connected.
The front Mulitmedia Keys on the front of my Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook (Play/Pause, Previous, Next, Stop) don’t work. The volume control buttons work.
I have yet to see if the physical network card works, but have no doubts that it won’t as it worked fine in 5.10. Also as I have high-speed almost anywhere I go any more, I haven’t tested the Modem.
The other thing that didn’t work in 5.10 is the touch pad. Out of the box it is a little more sensitive than I would like, but the one feature that did not work in 5.10, but did work in Suse 10.0 (out of the box) is the scroll ‘wheel’ on the right and bottom of the touch pad. In 6.06 they work! I love that feature really for a notebook. It makes it easy to scroll through a page.
Overall, with the limited amount of time I have played with it, this is a step in the right direction. I heard there was some issues with WINE and Dapper, but I’m not sure if CodeWeavers has the same problem (based on WINE so I expect that it does). Another thing that I heard is that MythTV .019 has some issues (MySQL PHP5) with Dapper. I’m wanting to build a few media center PC’s (primarily the back end) and then get an X-Box for the front end. I’m sure it will get worked out quickly. Maybe I’ll have a 5.10 box in the house still.
As I play with it more, I look forward to the final release. I remember when I downloaded 5.10 RC2 and cooked my box and was like ‘I’ll way til it becomes final’. I’m also curious what bugs might be left when Dapper goes Final. I haven’t updated my 5.10 box at home to see how many updates might be available and I took 5.10 off my notebook because I had no wifi…After installing 6.06 I had a 169 updates. Curious before Ubuntu recommends 6.06 over 5.10
Okay I’m blabbering.
