…and I’m loving it!
Surprisingly stable for being a beta (though RC2). I did notice a few issues today as I was playing with it more — I’ll get to that in a minute.
I recently moved into an apartment complex and was w/o internet for a night…I figured hey…if it’s open, I’m not really stealing it am I? Just using what is available to me. My Windows box saw 2 wifi networks (both secured). My notebook saw 7, 4 were unsecured.
Another reason I love it!
Earlier in the week I screwed up my repositories — was w/o internet had different ‘Breezy Add-on CDs’ and tried to use them, they over wrote my default repositories and I was getting a lot of broken messages. I found out that the Dapper list of repositories is the same as Breezy except it says Dapper instead of Breezy. Anyways, good info to know!
When looking at some screen shots, I was seeing what looked like the launch bar or dock on OSX and googled and googled and googled and found that gdesklets does exactly that!!! So apt-get install gdesklets gdesklets-data and bam….I had gdesklets (did I ever mention that I love apt-get?). I noticed a little glitch when using a particular script and running gdesklets (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=34354 — script in question)…The script worked great, but gdesklets freaked..I had to ctl+alt+f1 and then sudo reboot. All was well when I rebooted, I had my incons back and no issues with stability. Oh, I also set gdesklets to start when the computer starts up so I don’t have to keep opening it.
One thing is for sure, I’m pumping down updates like mad!! 181MB last night, a good number twice today…Takes a while currently because we’re on slower cable at the apartment, but that’ll be fixed here tomorrow I hope!
I did attempt to play with Enlightenment V16 (I think it was) and wow…something new, and painful to learn. I did go searching for Compiz, but seems to be an alpha or early Beta, and hey, I like my stuff to work and be fairly stable.
A good step in the direction, definitely interested to see what the final version brings (if anything)
